The Vincentian Family has launched the appeal “From our hearts to the heart of Lebanon” to support the work of Vincentians in Beirut. The Lebanese Vincentian Family sprang into action right after the blast that devastated the city on August 4th, sheltering some of the new 300,000 new homeless, taking care of the poorest, healing the wounded, and feeding the needy.
The Famvin Homeless Alliance (FHA), on behalf on the Lebanese Vincentian Family is raising funds to provide shelter, food, healthcare, and building repair materials for families in Beirut. The FHA has been offered an initial fund of $50,000 with the condition from the funder that other donors match it.
Father Tomaz Mavric CM, President of the Executive Committee of the Vincentian Family , said: “As each one of us sets into motion our own methods of solidarity, I would like to propose we react to this catastrophe in a concerted way, as a family. You might have seen Pope Francis immediately sent a €250,000 ($295,000) fund to help the Church in Lebanon. As Vincentians, could we rise to the challenge of making a similarly significant donation to the poor and homeless in Lebanon? “
Before the explosion, Lebanese people were already experiencing economic hardship and the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic, with a vast increase in poverty having stunted the country. Now more than ever, the population left homeless in Beirut and the Vincentians present there, need all the support we can send.
