About

Rome, 26-28 November 2018 – The Famvin Homeless Alliance conference brought together over 100 Vincentians working in homelessness from six continents to hear and learn from each other and experts in the field. The conference offered skills and knowledge to those practitioners as well as opportunities to directly engage in Famvin Homeless Alliance initiatives.

The main topics of the conference centered around three forms of homelessness tackled by the FHA (street homelessness, refugees/IDPs, and slum dwellings). Keynote lectures were delivered by a range of senior leaders. Speakers come from organizations including the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Caritas, the Daughters of Charity and Congregation of the Mission, the SSVP, Depaul International and the Institute of Global Homelessness.

A blueprint for the 13 Houses Campaign

Marking the first global gathering of its kind, the 2018 FHA International Conference united the Vincentian Family in a shared commitment to improve the current services offered to our brothers and sisters. Over three days in Rome, participants from across the world engaged in a rigorous exchange of knowledge—ranging from high-level expert workshops to the invaluable insights of people with lived experience.

This conference established the blueprint for the 13 Houses campaign, effectively bridging the gap between the Vincentian charism and the urgent, contemporary need for sustainable housing and dignified accompaniment.

How is it possible to believe, to believe again, when one is sitting or lying outside, trying to stay safe from the wind, from looks and sometimes from God himself?’ And from this, how can we bring not just a home but restore inner peace and inner joy?

Mgr. Bruno-Marie DUFFÉ

Secretary of the Dicastery for the Integral Human Development Department, Holy See
